Job Overview
A private household in Toronto is seeking a caring, patient, and reliable Home Support Worker to provide one-on-one support to an elderly client and/or a person with physical disabilities in their home. You will help with personal care, daily living activities, light housekeeping, meals, and companionship, allowing the client to live safely and comfortably at home. This is a long-term, full-time role for someone who truly enjoys helping others, respects client dignity and privacy, and is looking to build a professional caregiving career in Canada. Optional live-in accommodation can be provided at no charge if desired.

- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
Experience
- 7 months to less than 1 year of recent experience in a similar role (home support worker, personal support worker, caregiver, nursing aide, or related)
- Experience working with elderly clients and/or persons with physical disabilities is an asset
Work Site Environment
- Non-smoking home
Work Setting
- Work in employer’s/client’s private home in Toronto
- One-on-one support in a home environment
- Optional accommodation available at no charge on a live-in basis (this is not a condition of employment and live-out candidates are welcome)
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Administer bedside and personal care, including assistance with mobility, repositioning, and comfort measures
- Assist clients with bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, and other aspects of personal hygiene
- Administer medications as directed by the employer and in accordance with provided instructions (e.g., oral medications, reminders, topical applications)
- Assist clients in water (e.g., pool) for supervised aquatic exercises or therapy, following safety guidelines
- Assist in regular exercise routines such as walks, gentle stretching, or prescribed physiotherapy exercises
- Feed or assist in feeding clients, considering any special diets, textures, or swallowing precautions
- Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals and snacks according to dietary needs and preferences
- Shop for food and household supplies, following lists and budget provided by the employer
- Launder clothing and household linens; fold, organize, and store items appropriately
- Mend clothing and linens as needed (buttons, small repairs, etc.)
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the client, such as tidying rooms, making beds, washing dishes, wiping surfaces, and keeping the environment clean and safe
- Provide companionship, emotional support, and social interaction (conversation, games, reading, accompanying to appointments or short outings as needed)
- Provide personal care with respect, sensitivity, and attention to the client’s dignity and privacy
- Observe and report any changes in the client’s condition, mood, or behaviour to the employer promptly
- Follow care plans, daily routines, and any instructions from healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care
- Support safe transfers and mobility, possibly using assistive devices (e.g., walker, wheelchair) as required

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift
- Assisting clients with mobility, transfers, and positioning
- Weight handling up to 45 kg (100 lbs.), including supporting or assisting with lifting or transfers (proper techniques and/or equipment to be used)
- Ability to perform light housekeeping and other manual tasks on a regular basis
- Need for sustained attention, patience, and emotional resilience when supporting clients with disabilities or age-related conditions

- Flexibility and adaptability to changes in routines, schedules, or care needs over time
Additional Assets (Not Required but an Advantage)
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Previous experience in home care, long-term care, or community support
- Training related to personal support work, nursing assistance, or caregiving
