Job Overview
A caring family in Toronto is looking for a responsible, patient, and organized Child Caregiver to provide daily care and support for their children in a private home setting. You will help with routines, school runs, activities, and light household duties, creating a safe, nurturing environment where the children can grow and thrive. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children, wants a stable, full-time role, and is interested in building a long-term childcare career in Canada. Optional live-in accommodation is available at no charge for the right candidate.

Experience
- 1 to less than 7 months of recent childcare experience (e.g., nanny, babysitter, daycare helper, teacher’s assistant, or similar)
- Experience supervising more than one child at a time is an asset

Work Setting
- Employer’s private home in Toronto, ON
- Care and supervision of children within the home and on outings
- Optional accommodation available at no charge on a live-in basis (not a condition of employment; live-out candidates are welcome)
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Supervise and care for children at all times while on duty, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Maintain a safe and healthy environment in the home, identifying and minimizing hazards
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks in line with parents’ preferences and any dietary needs
- Take children to and from school, extracurricular activities, playdates, and appointments, using public transportation or walking as appropriate
- Tend to the emotional well-being of children by offering comfort, encouragement, and positive guidance
- Instruct children in personal hygiene and self-care (e.g., handwashing, brushing teeth, dressing appropriately)
- Support children’s social development, including manners, sharing, communication, and respect for others
- Organize and engage in age-appropriate activities such as reading, games, crafts, outdoor play, and local outings
- Help children with simple school-related tasks or homework, encouraging good study habits and routines
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the children and common areas (e.g., tidying toys, wiping surfaces, washing dishes used for meals, keeping play and study areas organized)
- Wash, iron, and press clothing and household linens as required, focusing on children’s clothing and bedding
- Assist with organizing children’s belongings, school bags, and clothing for the next day’s activities
- Follow the parents’ instructions and house rules regarding routines, discipline, screen time, and activities
- Communicate regularly with parents about daily routines, behaviours, progress, and any concerns or incidents
Security and Safety
- Criminal record check required or willingness to obtain prior to starting employment
- Vulnerable sector check and references from previous childcare or related work are strong assets
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting family privacy
Transportation/Travel Information
- Public transportation is available in the area
- Travel expenses paid by employer for work-related transit with the children (e.g., bus or subway fares)
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, and playing with children throughout the day
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying children and items such as bags, groceries, and strollers
- Weight handling up to 9 kg (20 lbs)
- Need to remain attentive and engaged for extended periods while supervising children
- Occasional emotionally demanding situations that require patience and calm responses
Personal Suitability
- Efficient interpersonal skills; able to build positive relationships with both children and parents
- Flexibility to adapt to changing routines, schedules, and children’s developmental needs
- Initiative in planning activities, noticing what needs to be done, and addressing small issues without constant supervision
- Good judgment in responding to children’s needs, safety concerns, and unexpected situations
- Organized and able to manage time effectively in a busy home environment
- Reliability and punctuality, with a strong commitment to consistent attendance and agreed working hours
- Patience and a calm demeanor, especially during challenging behaviours or busy times
- Honesty, integrity, and respect for family rules, values, and privacy
Additional Assets (Not Required but Preferred)
- CPR and First Aid certification for infants and children
- Previous experience as a live-in caregiver or nanny
- Any formal childcare training or short courses (e.g., early childhood assistant, caregiver programs)
