Job Overview
N7 Stock Farms is seeking an experienced, hands-on Farm Foreman/Woman to help manage day-to-day operations on a mixed beef cattle and grain farm near Hamiota, Manitoba. You will work directly with the herd and crops while coordinating a small team of farm workers to ensure animal health, efficient feeding programs, effective calving management, and successful crop production. This role is ideal for a working leader who is comfortable with both livestock and machinery, enjoys rural life, and wants a long-term future in Canadian agriculture with staff accommodation available on site.

Experience

• 1 year to less than 2 years of recent experience on a livestock and/or grain farm
• Experience with beef cattle, calving, and basic equipment operation is preferred
• Previous experience in a lead hand or supervisory role is an asset

Work Site Environment

• Beef cattle ranching and farming, including feedlots
• Other grain farming (e.g., cereals, oilseeds, forages)
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain, snow)
• Exposure to dust, noise, odours, and livestock environments

Work Setting

• Direct daily interaction with farm owners/managers and general farm workers

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

• Monitor the calving process closely, including checking cows and heifers, assisting with difficult births as directed, and ensuring newborn calves receive proper care (e.g., colostrum, tagging)
• Monitor overall animal health on a daily basis; observe behaviour, feed intake, lameness, and other signs of illness or distress
• Treat livestock health issues as directed, including administering medications, vaccines, and basic treatments, and communicating with veterinarians as required
• Formulate and help implement feeding programs for different cattle groups (cows, calves, feeders, bulls) in consultation with farm management and nutritional guidelines
• Oversee and participate in daily livestock feeding and watering using both manual and automated equipment
• Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed by all staff and visitors, including proper use of protective gear, restricted access areas, and disinfection protocols
• Co-ordinate and supervise the work of general farm workers and harvesting labourers, assigning tasks and providing training and guidance as needed
• Supervise and oversee growing and other crop-related operations, such as seeding, spraying, fertilizing, swathing, and harvesting grain and forage crops
• Participate in crop work by operating tractors, tillage equipment, seeders, sprayers, harvesters, and related machinery, following safe operating procedures
• Maintain farm machinery, equipment, and buildings, performing basic maintenance and repairs where possible and arranging for outside service when required
• Perform general farm duties such as fencing, water system checks, yard work, and seasonal clean-up
• Organize daily and weekly work plans to ensure both livestock and crop needs are met efficiently and on schedule
• Maintain basic records related to livestock performance (e.g., calving, treatments), feed usage, and crop activities
• Communicate regularly with farm owners/managers about herd status, crop progress, labour needs, equipment issues, and any concerns or recommendations

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

• Physically demanding role requiring good overall fitness and stamina
• Frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of heavy objects (feed, tools, equipment parts)
• Combination of sitting (operating machinery), standing, walking, and climbing (equipment, corrals)
• Bending, crouching, kneeling, and working in confined or uneven spaces (barns, pens, under equipment)
• Working long hours during peak seasons (calving, seeding, haying, harvest) under time and weather pressure
• Exposure to outdoor elements year-round and to typical farm hazards (moving equipment, animals, dust)
• Need for sustained attention to detail when monitoring animals, operating machinery, and implementing safety procedures
