Job Overview
YARROW LIMITED PARTNERSHIP is seeking dedicated Health Care Aides to support residents in a nursing home/home for the aged in Duncan, BC. This role is ideal for a caring professional who is committed to resident dignity, comfort, and safety. You will assist with essential daily care, monitor basic vital signs, support mobility and positioning, help maintain clean and comfortable rooms, and respond calmly during emergencies. Languages: English
Education
- College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
Credentials
- Health Care Aide Certificate required
- First Aid training is an asset (emergency response duties included)
Experience
- Experience is an asset; new graduates and internationally trained candidates with relevant training are encouraged to apply (where eligible)
Work Setting
- Nursing home/home for the aged
- Rural area and remote location

- Team-based care environment with established routines and resident care plans
Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Supply and empty bed pans and assist residents with toileting needs respectfully
- Take and record patients’ blood pressure, temperature, and pulse as required
- Serve meal trays and feed patients/residents who require assistance
- Weigh, lift, turn, and position patients/residents safely to support comfort and prevent skin breakdown
- Transport patients/residents by wheelchair or stretcher and assist with safe transfers and mobility
- Make beds and maintain patients’ rooms, including cleanliness, comfort, and basic organization
- Maintain inventory of supplies and notify appropriate staff when items need replenishment
- Deliver messages, reports, requisitions, and specimens between departments as assigned
- Administer first aid in emergency situations and follow established reporting procedures
- Observe changes in resident condition or behavior and communicate concerns promptly to nursing staff
- Support resident dignity, privacy, and emotional well-being through respectful interaction and reassurance
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, including hygiene, PPE use, and safe handling of soiled items
Security and Safety Requirements
- Criminal record check required
- Immunization records required
- Must be able to follow facility safety protocols and resident confidentiality requirements
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Shift work including weekends, nights, and on-call as needed
- Physically active role requiring standing and walking for extended periods
- Frequent lifting, turning, repositioning, and transferring of residents using safe techniques and equipment
- Ability to work calmly in a busy care environment and respond to urgent situations appropriately
- Strong attention to detail for vital signs, resident comfort, and safety routines
