Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Aide (HCA) to join our team. As an HCA, you will provide essential support to patients, assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patient well-being, and working closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality care.

Description
As a Health Care Aide, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide personal care and support services to patients who require short-term assistance or ongoing care. You will play a key role in assisting with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, recreation, and safety needs. Additionally, you will help with organized activities and observe and report on patients’ mood, health, and overall well-being.

You will work under the supervision of a regulated health professional, ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while maintaining effective communication with healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal hygiene, mobility, and daily activities.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support.
  • Help with meal preparation and feeding as needed.
  • Monitor and report changes in patients’ conditions to nursing staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive environment.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures in providing patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining medical records and documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
  • Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory (confirmation letter required).
  • Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program with at least 100 hours of practicum will be considered.
  • Compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Long-Term Care (LTC).
  • Familiarity with Connect Care systems.
  • Active status on the HCA registry.

Security Screening
A satisfactory criminal record check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search is required before the first day of work. Employees must disclose any charges or convictions that occur during employment.
