Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dedicated Health Care Social Worker to join our team at the Halifax Infirmary Robie Street Entrance – QEII in the Central Zone. This temporary full-time position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment where you will support patients and their families in achieving their optimal level of functioning and health.
Position Details
- Department: OPCZ Med/Surg Social Work
- Employment Type: Temporary Hourly FT long-assignment (100%)
- Healthcare Position
- Assignment Duration: Approximately 15 months
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts over a 7-day per week schedule, including weekends & holidays

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychosocial assessments for patients and families.
- Provide adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counseling, and resource counseling.
- Develop and implement discharge planning and case management strategies.
- Advocate for patients and participate in program planning, consultation, and collaboration.
- Support individuals and groups within institutional and community settings.
- Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Social Work from a recognized university.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a clinical Social Worker preferred.
- Strong counseling and communication skills with the ability to work autonomously.
- Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and loss, end-of-life care, disability, and crisis intervention.
- Understanding of theoretical frameworks/approaches to practice.
- Experience in abortion care and options counseling is an asset.
- Bilingualism (French) is considered an asset.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Pay: $39.39 – $51.78 per hour
- For Social Workers with less than 2 years of experience: $33.27 – $36.01 per hour
- LMIA Sponsorship: Available for eligible candidates
