Job Overview
Thomson Farms is hiring a dependable Dairy Farm Worker to support daily dairy operations in a rural, remote area near Martintown, Ontario. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with animals, can handle physically demanding farm work, and understands that livestock care requires consistency, attention to detail, and strong responsibility. You will assist with feeding, milking, calving support, barn sanitation, health monitoring, and record-keeping while following strict farm safety and bio-security standards. Experience is an asset, but we welcome motivated candidates who are eager to learn and build a stable, long-term career in Canadian agriculture.

- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
- Or equivalent experience

- Experience is an asset (dairy, livestock, farm labour, milking, feeding, calving, barn work)
- Training will be provided for farm routines, equipment, and bio-security procedures

- Outdoors and indoor barn environments
- Dusty, noisy, wet/damp, dirty conditions with strong odours
- Dairy and livestock setting with daily animal handling

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)
- Feed and tend animals, including performing livestock feeding routines and monitoring intake
- Milk cows and support/supervise milking operations to ensure work is done correctly and hygienically
- Monitor animal health daily and diagnose livestock health issues or identify concerns for follow-up
- Treat livestock health issues as directed and within farm protocols
- Detect disease and health problems in livestock (and related farm production areas) and report promptly
- Monitor the calving process, prepare a clean, dry calving area, and support cows during calving
- Handle animals safely and humanely; develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals using safe handling practices
- Perform animal grooming activities and general husbandry tasks
- Disinfect pens, barns, and other livestock areas to maintain sanitation and reduce disease risk
- Clean stables, barns, barnyards, and pens; maintain bedding and overall barn cleanliness
- Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed at all times (visitor control, sanitation steps, equipment hygiene)
- Maintain quality control and production records, including health notes and basic production tracking
- Examine product for quality and readiness for market as assigned
- Perform general farm duties and assist with additional tasks during busy periods and seasonal needs
Equipment, Machinery, and Systems (Assets/Experience)
- Automated milking system experience
- Automated manure handling or storage system experience
- Skidsteer operation experience
- Familiarity with automated systems for manure handling and storage
- Area of specialization: dairy cattle, cattle breeding, animal husbandry
Security and Safety
- Criminal record check required
- Must follow farm safety rules, animal handling procedures, and bio-security standards
Transportation / Travel Information
- Own transportation required due to rural/remote location and limited access to public transit
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
- Ability to work independently and follow routines with minimal supervision
- Fast-paced environment with time-sensitive tasks (milking schedules, feeding, calving events)
- Work under pressure, especially during calving or urgent health situations
- Physically demanding and repetitive tasks
- Standing for extended periods; frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling
- Comfortable working around large animals and farm machinery
