Job Overview
A private family in North York is seeking a compassionate, patient, and responsible Live-In Caregiver to support a person with disabilities in their home. As a live-in caregiver, you will be part of the household and play a key role in assisting with personal care, daily living, medication, meals, and light housekeeping while offering companionship and encouragement. This position is ideal for someone who truly enjoys caring for others, is comfortable living in the employer’s home, and wants a stable, full-time caregiving career in Canada.

Languages: English

Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or
  • Equivalent education and/or experience

Experience

  • 1 to less than 7 months of recent experience in caregiving, home support, personal support, or a similar role
  • Informal/family caregiving experience will be considered an asset
  • Employer will provide guidance on client-specific routines, needs, and preferences

Work Setting

  • Employer’s private home in North York, ON
  • Work in employer’s/client’s home
  • Optional accommodation available at no charge on a live-in basis (private or semi-private arrangements to be discussed with the family)
  • One-on-one support for a person with disabilities in a residential neighbourhood

Key Responsibilities (Tasks)

  • Administer bedside and personal care, including assistance with mobility, positioning, and comfort measures as directed
  • Assist client with bathing, showering, grooming, dressing, and other aspects of personal hygiene while preserving dignity and privacy
  • Administer medications according to schedules and clear written instructions from the family and/or healthcare professionals (e.g., oral medications, topical applications, reminders)
  • Assist in regular exercise and mobility activities, such as supervised walks or simple stretching routines, in accordance with the client’s abilities and care plan
  • Feed or assist in feeding, including preparation of appropriate textures and monitoring intake if needed
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks that meet the client’s dietary needs, preferences, and any medical or cultural requirements
  • Shop for food and household supplies as requested, following shopping lists and budget guidelines provided by the employer
  • Launder clothing and household linens; wash, dry, fold, and store items neatly
  • Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the client’s comfort and safety, such as tidying living areas, washing dishes after meals, wiping surfaces, and keeping pathways clear
  • Provide ongoing companionship, emotional support, and social interaction through conversation, reading, games, or other mutually agreed activities
  • Provide personal care throughout the day as needed, including toileting assistance and help with transfers or repositioning (using safe lifting and transfer techniques)
  • Observe and promptly report any changes in the client’s physical or emotional condition (e.g., mobility, appetite, mood, pain) to the family or designated contact
  • Help maintain a safe home environment by identifying and reducing hazards (e.g., loose rugs, clutter, poor lighting)
  • Follow all care plans, schedules, and instructions laid out by the family and any healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care

  • Bending, crouching, and occasional kneeling when assisting with personal care, transfers, and light housekeeping
  • Handling light to moderate loads (e.g., groceries, laundry baskets) where necessary
  • Physically and emotionally demanding at times, particularly when assisting with mobility or responding to changes in the client’s condition
  • Repetitive tasks, including aspects of personal care, housekeeping, and meal routines
  • Need for sustained attention, awareness, and responsiveness, especially in a live-in role

  • Patience and emotional resilience, especially when dealing with repetitive tasks, challenging days, or fluctuating health conditions
  • Honesty and integrity, with strict respect for privacy, property, and household rules

Additional Assets (Not Required but Preferred)

  • CPR and First Aid certification
  • Any caregiver, personal support worker, or health aide training
  • Previous experience supporting persons with physical or developmental disabilities
